"Suspect Arrested In Pasadena Carport Fire" by Ann M. Simmons
In the Los Angeles Times there is an article about a Pasadena apartment building carport being set on fire and causing serious damage. Lisa Derderian a spokeswoman for the Pasadena Fire Department, said that an arson detective arrested thirty year old Artist Knox on Friday. Artist Knox is suspected of setting fire to the apartment carport on September 8, at 2:00 A.M. The fire in the 600 block of South Marengo Avenue destroyed two vehicles, damaged three others, and an building next door. Approximately twenty residents were evacuated while firefighters tried putting out the fire for fifteen minutes. The arson investigators looked through the surveillance footage that was in the vicinity, and worked really hard to try to find Knox. The people in the apartment wanted the police to find Knox as soon as possible so their minds would be at ease. The damages overall cost about $200,000 and Knox is being held on $250,000 bail. Further information about his status is unavailable.

People acts like this is just a great way of building a horrible reputation on themselves. Other than hurting others and destroying their property Knox did not accomplish anything else. This could have been more serious and if the people were not evacuated in time, they could have gotten injured or even died.
ReplyDeleteIt is good that at least they have Knox in custody. This arson could have gotten people killed. He most probably either did not foresee the danger and seriousness of his actions or just did not care. Either way he should be responsible for paying for reparation costs.
ReplyDeleteMy curiosity circles around the reason as to why Knox might have begun the fire. Immature acts such as these should have a greater punishment than bail. He should serve community service and formally apologize to the residents of the buildings. People these days are beginning to do immature stunts without realizing the consequences, or realizing the damage they cause other people. It is an unsettling thought that such a scene happened in Pasadena, one of the safest cities in Los Angeles county.
ReplyDeleteArtist Knox caused several residents to become physically and emotionally distressed. Investigators should take into consideration that Knox is a possible threat to society. Therefore, officials should find him as soon as possible, arrest him, and send him to psychiartic care.
ReplyDeleteI do not understand how people can intentionally cause so much harm to others. Even if Knox had incentive, I have a feeling it would not justify the death of innocent people. People could have died! Why would anyone ever do this?
ReplyDeleteThe police did a great job in putting Knox under custody. These cities are doing a great job in protecting their neighborhood. These citizens are also doing well in protecting their neighbors in situations similar to this one. Damage to property is fine as long as the people living there are still alive. All damage costs however should effect Knox when and if they find him.
ReplyDeleteKnox could have caused many deaths if the people were not evacuated. This man destroyed homes and other's belongings. Knox deserves to be held liable for his actions because no only did he damage property, but he also threatened the people's lives. Careless individuals like Knox should face the consequences in order to get rid of bad examples. How can one intentionally do such an act?
ReplyDeleteIt is quite disturbing to hear people doing such things. Knox not only caused a great amount of damage, but he also instilled fear into the people living in that community. He should not be let free for this crime.
ReplyDeleteTechnology has yet again proven itself incredibly useful. If the surveillance camera was not there to record the man setting the apartment on fire he would still be lingering about recieving no consequences for his actions. What good reason would someone possibly have for endangering so many peoples lives? Im pleased to know how fast our police force worked to find Knox and lock him up.
ReplyDeleteWhen I see a case like this, I think about how many sick-minded people there are around the world. Who can possibly get pleasure out of setting fires? Millions of arsonists set fires around the world every year, but I cannot grasp the idea of why. It is a sadistic doing and it has its own name for a reason. As Nanar stated above, this is a great achievement for the world on behalf of technology. Personally, I believe every household should be equipped with a personal surveillance camera in order to not only avoid cases like these, but to find the suspect.

ReplyDeleteI wonder what mental state this man was in when he decided that he should burn down a car port in an apartment complex. Was he thinking about the innocent people he could have hurt or all the damage that he caused? Whether this man was sane or not does not matter any longer. At least, he has been identified and arrested, thanks to surveillance tape and great efforts put forth by Police. He can not start any more fires from a jail cell.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, society is becoming more immature by the second. This news has reached a new extreme of stupidity. Knox has damaged many people's homes due to his irresponsible actions. The city made the right decision to take this man under custody, because he must understand that consequences always follow any actions that have been undertaken. If this fire was not distinguished on time it could have spread to other cities and damaged more than it already did. It disappoints me extremely, when I hear such horrible news.
ReplyDeleteA fire is not a joking matter that can be shoved to the side-lines. Years ago, I heard the quote, "Don't go around playing with fire; you might get burned." Artist Knox's actions were foolish and cannot be justified in any way, shape, or form. Arsonists should analyze their actions before they act on their ideas, because they should realize the consequences that follow the spark of a fire. It is just to charge Knox for the damages caused to the property of his neighbors and the risk of their safety. Also, the prompt action of the investigators is credible, because they quickly attempted and succeeded to “unmask” the guilty criminal. Fortunately, no civilians were harmed.
ReplyDeleteI am curious to figure out why Knox set this fire up in the first place. People who perform acts like this should receive more than just prison time. Setting out a destructive, damaging neighbors' cars, and becoming the cause of twenty residents to leave their households are actions that only an immature person can do. I have noticed that as time passes, way more disturbing cases like this are thrown out in public. It is extremely important that they found Knox because that guarantees a safer neighborhood for others Your article also proves that as time passes, technology advancements help arresters find the correct culpable person. I also agree with Harout that every household should have a private surveillance camera. That way the majority of suspects can easily be found and taken in.
ReplyDeleteI do not understand what could possibly stick the idea in anyone's mind that it is alright to burn down buildings and put innocent people in danger. This, in my eyes, is violent psychopathic behavior. Although I am glad they have Knox in custody.
